How do we keep God in his rightful place in our priorities? And how do we establish a habit of walking with him [Genesis 17:1], living for him, and allowing him to direct our steps. The real answer is to establish a daily habit of prayer, time to worship and reading the Bible.
Psalm 119:97 “Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long.”
Life today brings with it so many priorities, commitments, and responsibilities.
For some of us we are running kids everywhere while doing homework, cooking dinner, organizing bills and balancing family pressures. Others work full time jobs which often require commuting from faraway places and even more of us are caught up in the daily grind of our everyday life.
There are so many things which plea for our attention and scream for our devotion.
* Extended Families
* Husbands and Wives
With all of the demands and distractions of life it can be almost impossible to establish a habit of living for God.
We have to be careful not to let all of our commitments and responsibilities become more important or more of a priority than our relationship with God.
Today’s culture has brought all kinds of competition for our attention. Trying to find an opportunity for quality time with God can be extremely challenging for the even the best time manager. It can be even more difficult for families with young children to carve out time for God. It is easy for young families to feel as if every second of their time is swallowed by the never-ending demands of parenting. Then as families begin to grow and kids begin to get older sports, technology and peers enter the scene in full color.
Where does God fit into all of this?
His Word can bring peace and rest to our spirits and lives. His Word can help us to direct our attention and priorities toward the right direction. His Word can teach us boundaries and balance. His Word can give us inspiration for any dilemma we may be facing. His Word can be our safe haven in the whirlwind of our lives. God can be our strong tower and our best friend! When we choose to serve God with our whole heart and put God first place in our lives we are sure to be full of joy and peace! Let the Word of God renew your mind and direct your every step. [Psalm 119:133]
Following is a list of quick ways I try to get God back into my everyday routine when it seems life has taken over all of my time.
* Listen to a podcast, bible app, or church service while driving into work.
* Take a 30-minute walk to clear my mind, be still, and begin to listen to god’s leading
* Do a quick devotion while i am blow drying my hair
* Read the bible app on my phone while waiting at various appointments
* Pray in the shower
* Wake up 30 minutes earlier to grab a little quiet time with God
* Listen to worship music
* Open and read the bible each day even if it’s not the preferred length of time
Remember God is with us wherever we go and sometimes it’s just a matter of tuning in our hearts and minds to him, even in the busiest of seasons of life! Take it from me He will be waiting to welcome us back with open arms!
